Today marks 76 years since the birth of Aussie singing sensation John Farnham, a man whose voice would go on to define a generation and echo through Australian hearts for decades.

To celebrate the milestone, Farnham’s son Robert took to Instagram with a touching message, calling his father his “idol” and “hero” in a heartfelt birthday post. The tribute was paired with a charming throwback photo of Farnham.

The emotional tribute comes after Farnham recently made a rare public appearance that left fans overjoyed at how “amazing” he looked.

The You’re the Voice hitmaker has kept a low profile in recent years following his battle with mouth cancer, which led to major surgery and eight weeks of radiation therapy in 2022. In July 2023, Farnham received the long-awaited “all-clear” from doctors, marking a triumphant turning point in his recovery.

One of his most recent appearances was in celebration of another family milestone—his wife Jill’s 70th birthday. Surrounded by loved ones at a Melbourne restaurant, Farnham was all smiles in a photo shared by Robert, who captioned it: “Happy birthday 70th to mum! Love u x.”

Farnham is widely considered one of Australia’s most popular performers and is known for his highly successful 1986 album Whispering Jack which became the biggest-selling Australian album of all time by a local artist and held the top spot on the charts for 25 weeks. In the same year his solo single You’re the Voice also reached the number one spot.
